I’ve been a Starbucks drinker for well over a decade and today was the first time I had a major spill.

I walked into a Starbucks as I was on my way to Disneyland, waited in line, and ordered my usual venti hot coffee. The coffee was presented to me at the normal coffee delivery area. The barista set it down on the counter briefly and I picked it up sideways from the cardboard slider as anyone would normally do.

I then walked to my car and got in. There was stuff in my center console’s cup holder so I set the coffee between my legs to clear it up.

I then grabbed the top of the cup with all five fingers on the cup itself below the lid (I was not grabbing the sides of the lid, but instead grabbing the cup itself with my usual medium pressure.)

The lid came off as I raised the cup and coffee spilt ALL over my crotch area, ran down to the backside. This was not a small spill. I’m in pain and I think I’m burned (to what degree I’m not sure because this just happened).

I kept the cup, got the manager’s card, and the barista admitted to me “we just got new lids so that could be what happened” as I was given a $4 gift card on my next purchase.

I’m not sure what to do here or if I should just take the pain and move on. I remember a case decades ago about and old lady but she was very badly burned. I’m not trying to ask for millions of dollars but just wondering if I should call a lawyer next or what you guys think I should do.
