Hello!
I hope I'm posting in the right place. I'm a freelance AV tech and I recently had to cancel some days for a medical issue. I had a seizure 3 weeks prior to my dates, my right should dislocated itself, then reset itself during the event, and for several weeks if I overworked it it would hurt to a point where I needed to sling it up.
When I called out they requested a doctor's note, which I did not provide because I'm not going to spend money for them to prescribe me opioids (I live in Florida, it's a huge thing) for something I just needed to let settle.
Flash to today and I found out that that is being held against me and they're not booking me much anymore. I know it's there prerogative to not hire me but my question is:
I thought I've heard that if a company is not providing sick days or medical benefits that they can't request doctors notes, is this true or was it gig talk.
Also important to note: my freelance contract with the company makes no mention of requiring medical notes.
