I've been served a writ of garnishment, I'm determined to fight it
Post Body

Location: Utah, USA

So I got a writ of garnishment, from these idiots who think I owe them $5,000 because I had bailed out of an apartment lease. Which I would think any normal person would say is insane. Unfortunately I was going through some bullshit during that time and I had missed court dates, I was homeless for a while, struggling with mental issues, and needless to say, I didn't give a shit about paperwork or worrying that I might not be receiving my mail.

So fast forward years later, I'm on stable footing, and these fucks still think I owe them $5,000. They just filed a writ of garnishment to my employer, and I'm determined to fight this and use every option available to me.

I'm going to submit a request for a hearing, to at least hopefully delay the garnishment (won't this issue a stay on the garnishment?) and then hopefully have the courts hear me out, hear my side of the story, and hopefully have it tossed out. Is there any likelihood of this going my way? Are there any other options I have?

This debt is absolute bullshit and there's no way I'm going to willingly hand over this money, they're going to have to pry it from my cold dead hands.
