A few days ago I caught my now ex fiance cheating on me with an ex of his. After giving me the run around he finally admitted it.
I have over $2,000 invested into the wedding, most of which I will not be able to get back due to them being non refundable deposits. Our agreement for the wedding was that I would pay for the wedding and he would pay for the honey moon. He did not book or pay anything so he has not taken any financial loss.
I am trying to come up with a compromise outside of court, but so far it's been futile. He believes he is not responsible for any of the wedding expenses because he wanted to "work it out" while I didn't. He's the one that broke the contract of getting married, not me.
So my question is, would it be a valid case if I were to take him to small claims court for half of the wedding expenses that I am not able to get refunded?
Edit: also who is obligated to the ring in this case? He feels he can give me the ring and use it towards some of the expenses, but I feel that isn't fair as I won't get near what he paid for it back. He paid about $600 for it.
