Can I take my old roommate to small claims court? (Chicago, Illinois)

Post Body

I shared an apartment with one other person from May 2017 to November 2017. The lease was for May 2017 to May 2018, but he moved out early and did not pay rent for October or November. Here is where I fucked up, I thought he had signed the lease, but he in fact did not and basically lied to me about being on the lease. My landlord knew he was living in the apartment but for some reason did not bring the lease issue up until he was two months late with the rent. I ended up paying for those two months as I was the sole signee on the lease. My question is can I still take him to small claims for rent and utilities? I did not initially do so earlier because of personal reasons at the time that prohibited me greatly from getting this done.
