On mobile please forgive formatting. Also, this is long so you can get a grip on the whole situation, I don't want to miss details. This is in Illinois. Ok, so a year ago I bought a trailer. (Bought is a strong word, they gave it to me, I paid first rent, deposit, and a title switch fee). I was planning to rent it but then they offered it to me, basically they wanted to get some trailers out of their name. I'd still have to pay lot rent, water, and sewer.

Now, I was told that there was nothing wrong with it at all, minus a broken window they agreed to fix before I moved in, which they did. I had it looked at by my dad, who does carpentry work in his free time, and minus a few cosmetic things, it all seemingly checked out.

2 months later, the place almost catches fire. Bad wiring. It's aluminum wiring, some switches have like, 4 pigtails behind them, (I think that's what I was told they're called), and all my power minus like, 2 outlets went out. I talked to the park and the park manager claims they were unaware there were any issues. This is shady for multiple reasons. Firstly, shortly after this happened, the neighbors told me that the previous owner left due to the wiring issues, secondly, one of the park maintenance guys admitted he had worked on some of the wiring, (so he had to have been fixing SOMETHING), and recently I lucked out and my friend actually ended up dating the guy who lived here before me! He said that the corporate office definitely knew about the issues, and refunded him his money for it when he left.

I've been trying to talk with corporate for a year, but they almost never call me back, and it's months between calls. They have yet to offer anything other than a, "resident loan", for the issues to get fixed. In other words, they'd pay for the wiring to be fixed, and every month X amount would be added to my bill. It's a standard sized 2 bedroom trailer, I've already got 1 room rewired, I have most the supplies that would be needed, AND I offered to make sure the paneling was already taken down. They told me it would cost 5 grand. That's highway robbery IMO. I could justify that price if they had to buy all the supplies, tear down and dispose of the paneling, rewire, and then put drywall back up, but they aren't doing all that.

My dad, (who I agree is a little biased obviously, and isn't a professional who does this as a full job, so that could skew it), says that since I've already got the wiring, outlets, switches, etc... And they'd be doing only the wiring, with open walls, it should definitely be less than $1K.

Regardless, I'm trying to find a way for this to be solved, and I don't think I should be responsible for the cost of the wiring since they told me nothing was wrong with it, and they were most definitely aware of the issues and even refunded the last occupant, therfore they lied, hid problems from me, and sold it to me under false pretenses.

I'm offering to tear down the paneling, put drywall back up, trim up, and paint the walls. I literally only want them to pay for the wiring work itself. Do I have any leg to stand on? Its not like I could have had the wiring checked out behind the walls before I bought it without tearing them down. I'm sure I could easily be wrong, but even in an, "as is sale" , as I'm assuming this was, if the seller lies about underlying issues, or hides them, isn't that illegal in some way or form? I get that it's also a consumers responsibility to check the place out first, which I did, but the underlying issue was one that couldn't just be easily checked, that I'm aware of. Any help is appreciated.

Also, if any of this sound like common sense, I apologize. I've only ever rented apartments pretty much, and never owned a place before, and I am NOT a handy type person at all, nor experienced in things like this, so it's all new and scary to me lol
