My partner and I were hit by another driver. The other person was making a turn but did not wait for traffic to clear. My car was destroyed. Both airbags deployed. Luckily we both came out with only minor injuries. We hired an attorney that I had used in the past to ensure we would not end up screwed over by insurance companies. However since we signed with him I have had little to no communication. The only time he has really reached out to me was to tell me I needed to call my insurance company and give them whatever they need because they were blowing his phone up.... He seemed aggravated and said he has never had this much communication with the PIP ever before. Kinda felt like he should have said something as soon as they called the first time but I said OK. So I called them. They informed me that they cannot speak to me without my attorney's permission and they had not been able to get that from him. I immediately called him back but got no answer. Texted him and again got no answer. He messaged back a few hours later saying he was traveling and would call me on Mon. Didn't hear anything back from him til Thursday. He sent me a text asking if we could meet on Fri. At this point we had both decided we needed a new lawyer. But now I'm hearing that since we already signed with him he could legally come after his part of the money whether he is working on the case or not. Is this true??? If so, I might already be screwed. So I messaged him back today and told him I had to be at work til 4 and asked him if he could meet me then. He responded by saying he was going on vacation and wouldn't be back for a week. I immediately asked if he had spoken to my insurance company yet. No response. So I messaged again and said I could leave work early and meet him. Still no response. Can he really prevent me from going with another attorney? Is the lack of communication here normal or am I expecting too much? I know my claim is small but it's still a claim and want to get what I can out of it. This has put our entire lives into chaos.
