I'm in St. Louis, MO
TL;DR for original post: Guy hit me with a truck, fled the scene of the incident.
So, I just got home from the court proceeding. The defendant pled guilty to assault and the judge has ordered that the defendant pay me a total of $100 a month to a total of $2000. This is about half of my total medical bills.
Here are my questions: - Should I hire a personal injury lawyer to recover the rest of the money? - Do PI attorneys do free consultations and work on a contingency? - What is the likely outcome of a potential civil suit? - How much should I seek in a suit?
I've never had to go through something like this, so I'm a little overwhelmed with where to begin.
Thanks for your help in advance!
