Quick background: I'm 35 and living in ohio and currently doing seasonal work for my Department of transportation before i go back to school in august. My sister has a large amount of outstanding debt and tends to use my name and phone number as a reference when she needs cash or for anything really. So i get spam calls and robo calls all the time. This one was a little different. It felt like a spear phishing call. But i wanted to check.
So today at around 2:45 i get a call from a place called Location Services that left me a message. A woman who gave her name said i am a co-defendant with my sister in a pending court case " for numerous charges complaints" and in the county i used to live(i haven't lived in that county for 10 years but live in the county just north of it). She also had my full name, my current and previous street address and most bothersome the last 4 digits of my social security number. That i they or the court, i'm not sure which, have been trying to contact me but now it's urgent. If i don't call back today by 4 pm processing will file charges against me. If i call by 4pm and i'm unaware what this is about or want my information removed from the court documents i or my lawyer should call the plaintiffs office. I'm given another non-local phone number and a processing number. Also if i don't reply they will send someone out to where i work or call my work so i can be served.
This all sounds a little fishy and urgent. I have no legal connection to my sister other then her being my sister. I never have ran any sort of business with her or gotten into trouble in any way while i was with her. I'm really worried that they have my SS# thought. Advice?
