I have lived with my GF for 5 years and while she isn't the .ost fiscally responsible person ever she would talk with me if she was being pursued by a debt collector. Now all of a sudden she recieved a letter saying she owes $3200 after interest for a debt from 2009 we have no idea about.
What actions can she take moving forward legally or is she screwed to suffer the consequences of some unknown debt?
She doesn't remember if the debt is something she did or not, her mom died during 2008-09 so i dont blame her for not remembering. I would guess its real. She was given no notice and we have lived at the same address for 4 years now. The letter is an actual judgement her work recieved and gave to her, says garnishment will start on 12/10.
It doesn't appear like it is on her report. I am using credit karma to check which isnt definitive but its the best i have at the moment.

Thats what i thought, she says that she has never been served with any paperwork. Do we just contact the clerk to do research or the records department? Is there a better way?
