My room mate invited some friends over and then to go to the club. I left the club early to go to a friend's place. I got a text from my room mate saying two of our friends went back to our apartment and had a fight. There was broken glass and a lot of blood.
The apartment wants to charge us 2,388$ for cleaning up the blood. There's a 500$ charge for cleaning up the sidewalk outside and 1,888 for cleaning up the inside.
I need to check my lease to see if the complex can even hold us legally liable for the money. We did pay a 400$ damage deposit when we moved in, but I don't remember what it says in the lease about extraneous expenses.
In the event that we are held liable, can we hold the two parties who fought liable to pay the 2,300? One is my homie and he agreed to pay half. The other dude says he isn't going to pay any of it.
Since they went in our apartment when we weren't there and broke a mirror and got blood every where I feel like maybe they should be liable. This dude that I want to hold liable is about to head marines so his wages should be able to be garnished.
What do you guys think?
