I work in a very high volume veterinary clinic and we've always had security cameras in most areas, which is totally fine. But two days ago, new hi-def cameras were installed along with separate ultra-sensitive microphones. No employees were asked for their consent to be recorded or advised that the microphones were being installed until the installation was nearly completed.
From what I've read, this constitutes wiretapping on a federal and state level, as no consent has been given. The only thing that was done was a sticker on the door advising that the premises is under video and microphone surveillance.
Also they have placed some microphones in areas that clients never enter (such as our treatment room) so that is to strictly record employee conversation.
One last point: There are rumors floating around that when they actually come up with a consent form, anyone who does not sign it will be terminated.
Is any of this legal? Thank you!
