Hi everybody,
I'm living in a room of a townhouse in DC right now, and paying $700 a month. My landlord emailed me today and said that, starting 8/1, my rent would be increased to $755 a month.
Looking on DC's Office of the Tenant Advocate, it seems that:
1: You need to give 30 days notice before increasing the rent and,
2: The maximum allowable rent increase is 2% the 2015 CPI (1.5%), meaning that the total maximum increase is 3.5%, or $24.5
Is my evaluation about this correct? I want to be sure of the legal situation before I talk to my landlord.
Here's where I got the information: http://ota.dc.gov/page/allowable-rent-increases
