Financial hostage by abusive boyfriend

A female friend used terrible judgement and signed the loan on a vehicle for her boyfriend. He is a mentally abusive (possibly physically), lazy, manipulative piece of shit. The issue is that he constantly threatens to leave her with the car knowing full well that she cannot cover the payments, housing and living expense for her and her child. Is there any possible recourse on her part? I'm afraid I know the answer, but hope she has other avenues. South Texas. Thanks!!
