I own a bike/kayak/outdoor shop in California, specifically Placer County (if that matters) For the past few weeks, I've had an older gentleman park his large SUV in our only handicap place, only to walk across the street to the marina and take out his boat all day. This concerns me for a few reasons:
- He is not a paying customer. All of our 'normal' parking spots also have signs on them saying "Parking is for customers only." If any other person parked here, we would politely ask them to park somewhere else (and there are about 15 public, free spaces that are 50 feet away).
He takes the spot away from someone who could potentially need to use it. We specifically graded that section of our parking lot to allow for wheelchair access. He uses our spot, then walks to the marina and takes his boat out (keep in mind that the marina does have handicap spots - why he doesn't park there is beyond me).
Least importantly (but still a concern) is the fact that his vehicle is blocking the from of our store. All of our other parking spots are in the side of the building; the handicap spot is at the front of the store. With any car there, it's much more difficult to see our display of bikes, kayaks, etc.
So, my question is, can he legally do this? Is there anyway to prevent this person from parking here? I tried to do some research on the matter, but came up with nothing.
