I rented two PODS[1] to be used to store furniture and project materials for a flooring renovation at my workplace. The PODS were paid for with my work-issued government credit card.

As I work for a government agency, I am required to turn in a receipt to our financial department. The receipt must actually say "Receipt" on it, show the last four digits of the card used for payment, and show a zero balance.

The PODS website under My Account only shows invoices so I called their customer service and was told, "We do not issue receipts." I explained my situation and they still refused to issue me a receipt. I then asked to speak to someone else and another person in their financial department (as opposed to customer service) also told me word-for-word, "We do not issue receipts." Neither person was able to explain to me WHY they do not issue receipts.

My initial assumption was that their website is set up in such a way that it does not generate a receipt and that the customer service people were simply not wanting to put in the extra effort required to get a receipt to me. However, I was complaining about this to a college and apparently another storage unit rental place, Packrats[2] , also only issues invoices and does not issue receipts.

The fact that two similar storage unit rental companies both refuse to issue receipts to customers makes me wonder if there is a legal reason for this. Can anyone shed some light on this issue for me?

Also, I REALLY need a receipt to turn into my financial department. Short of forging one, what should I do? Is there any way I can compel the company into giving me one somehow?
