community manager said there’s nothing she could do because i’m not on the lease.
My roommate has been subletting to me without authorization since october. i’ve been paying half of rent and getting my mail delivered to here since then, and under california law i have defacto tenancy rights.
anyways, while i was still living in the apartment, he listed my room for rent without telling me and then allowed 2 people to pay for my room and move in and told them i’d be out soon. they’ve been sleeping on the couch for weeks now. he made up a fake story saying his sister got kicked out to try and unlawfully influence me to leave the NEXT DAY. . (Coercion by deception). then he gave me a formal notice when i refused to leave .
i went to my complexes community manager about all of this and was fully honest, at first she said she’d give him a 3 day comply or quit , then she texted me saying she met with my roommate in person and that “there’s nothing i can do, my hands are tied because you aren’t on the lease”.
that makes zero sense to me, the fact that i’m not on the lease is the ENTIRE point. how the hell can she not give him a comply or quit when he has THREE unauthorized subtenants, and is obviously participating in fraudulent behavior??
