My job description keeps changing

Post Body

I came into my new job while there was a huge need. Iā€™m an unlicensed technician, so my job is essentially grunt work. There were no technicians when I started who could train me, and I have very much been making the role my own and doing what needs to be done.

Now, one of companyā€™s ā€œsister companiesā€ is severely understaffed and needs help. Iā€™ve been asked to step up and do tasks that are not in my job description. My director did not want me doing these things, and directly instructed me not to go outside my scope of practice.

She then received a lot of pressure to let other departments use me to alleviate their work. Iā€™ve been sent a new job description that uses the word ā€œmiscellaneousā€ a half-dozen times. I believe when a contract is so vague that one side is clearly at a disadvantage, they call it ā€œunconscionable.ā€

Iā€™m also suddenly, out of nowhere, being told that my pushback against new tasks is a huge issue. Itā€™s in my employee review, and nobody has ever said this to me ONCE. I have only received positive feedback and been thanked for how much I go above and beyond. My review says that I am ā€œunresourcefulā€ and ā€œunflexibleā€ referring to tasks I have not been given the resources needed to complete them and my reluctance to be loaned out to other departments. Neither of these words have been said to me, Iā€™ve in fact been praised for my flexibility.

What can I do? I never signed a new job description, and thereā€™s no paper trail of me having ever been defiant. In every interaction where I did deny a task, I cite my directorā€™s instruction. Can I just keep doing the job I signed up for, or can I get fired for rejecting unagreed to and undefined responsibilities?
