I want to preface this with the fact that I know I messed up and I’m dumb asf lol, just trying to figure out the best way forward. I live in upstate New York and I had a truck that had some issues so I tried to sell it. I found someone who wanted to trade my truck for his car. I had a 2000 ford and he had an early 2000s (I think) Camry. So I went to his house and he agreed to trade. We swapped titles… and this is where it all went wrong. His gfs name was on the title. I had my father with me to look at the car and I asked him if I should move forward and he was basically threw his hands up lol (hour and a half drive there) but the guy said he signs everything for his gf. So I was like okay, whatever, let’s do it. So we traded. We trailered the car home that day and I tried to register it like a couple days later when it wasn’t the weekend anymore but he had marked that it had been in an accident on the title, which I believe would’ve made me have to get a salvage title. I called him and he said that was a mistake and he’d send me a new title. Long story short, he didn’t. He won’t. Think he wants the car back and he sold my truck already (for $400?). The truck had a spot of frame damage, it wouldn’t pass inspection, but he knew that when he traded… but then he threw a fit about how bad the shape of the truck was and he has kids to feed so he sold it for $400 and he wants the back. What should I do? Some ppl have told me to take him to small claims and sue for what I put into the car what he sold my truck for. Some say sue for value of truck/car. (By sue I mean small claims). But yeah I’m just stressed and at the end of my rope lol. Want some advice from ppl not in the fam. And again, I know I screwed myself taking the shady deal, but it was heat of the moment and he seemed normal.
