I swear this must be what it feels like to go thru a bad divorce. I was released from my lease in April. Didn't get deposit returned until July so I sued. They countersued because I didn't turn a form in before I left and I wasn't sure if the judge would hang his hat on that so we settled out of court. I deposited the check on Thursday and Sunday I get an email saying there's a balance due. We stated all claims were settled. I've forwarded the email asking for confirmation the balance has been cleared. Am I correct that they can't come asking for money AFTER we both said we were done with any claims? Or should I go ahead and pay it? I'm sick of this complex and their unprofessionalism, same goes for their sleazy attorney. I just don't think given that any claims for any balances should've been handled in court can now come up after I deposited the check. I also wrote on the check that it was in satisfaction of the small claims case against them. Any advice anyone can give would be most helpful.
