My father passed away 2 yrs ago from heart failure and me and my older brother were left his estate (nothing crazy -couple hundred grand) I was institutionalized at the time as I had a mental breakdown and dove head first into a bottle of liquor at the thought of any grief or loss. So our (brother and I) attorney came to the facility I was at and I signed some paperwork stating I gave trust to my brother to handle it until I was well. Long story short, he mentioned a closed personal account of dads that he had liquidated that our attorney advised him to use for any outstanding bills, rent/utilities while total estate was worked out. I live on a low budget because of my recent medical expenses and am having a very hard time financially. I regularly ask him (brother) if there’s any news/progress on estate and he says no. I look up the txt messages on my phone and it’s been over a year since he told me he closed that account. Fast forward to current situation- he moves to MN and rents house with all new furniture/amenities while I’m borrowing money to literally live. Out right asked him what happened to that account recently and he ghosted me. Have wrote him daily for the past month. No reply. He would be the LAST person I would ever think would do such a thing as he’s always been very honest and straight. Question would be- what are my rights? Did I/could I have signed over the money while in treatment ?? That original family lawyer (trusted) closed the case because brother was being distant and difficult to work with. Is there even proof of that personal account? I’m extremely stressed about this, added to grief, depression and trying to cope. I’m staying sober and getting better for now which is all that really matters. Any info greatly appreciated. Any other details needed just ask. Thanks for your time 🙏
