i got into a car accident involving 4 cars on the highway. first car got scratched when my car(2nd car) got slammed and pushed forward into it by a van (3rd car) and a pickup truck (4th car) dented the van a little bit afterwards. the first and last car were basically fine but my car and the van that hit me were totaled. it was a chevy express LT that hit me. it didn't have any logos on it but it's not the type of car you usually see for personal use. it's the type of van every maintenance guy pulls up with when you call with an issue. so i believe it's safe to assume it was a company van
first thing i did was check in on the van because looking in my mirrors it looked really fucked. i step out, hold up a thumbs up while looking at the passengers and they both look at me and nod yes. two Hispanic men wearing safety vests came out and said they were alright. then when cops showed up and started asking for info they didn't speak any english and the cop didn't speak spanish so i had to translate for the cop since im bilingual. they said they didn't have a license when i asked. which isn't uncommon here in texas. when asked if they at least had ID they said they didn't have one. not even an expired one. so i asked if they really don't have anything, not even a passport from another country and they said no. they gave me names, phones number, home address, DOB and all the things the cop asked for so i don't believe they were just trying to hide it if they had it. when asked for insurance they pulled out their phone and called someone else for it. at this point im assuming it's their boss. they were able to present proof of insurance for the vehicle but it wasn't under either of their names, it was someone else. again im assuming their boss.
im dealing with their insurance company right now because my car was totaled but now im curious if there's also any options regarding the potential employer. i didn't ask for any personal info like their job at the accident because i just wanted to get home and rest so i only asked what the officer wanted me to. but if a company sent out two employees in a vehicle without a drivers license and they cause an accident i imagine they share some amount of liability for the damage their employees cost. what do you guys suggest.
