Fauquier county VA district court. I live in a bordering state.
I got a speeding ticket last year that I had gotten a deferred disposition on. I turned my completion certificate for defensive driving to my attorney (through OfftheRecord) in December 2023. Mind you that the court date, after being pushed back a couple times was in April. Attorney let's me know the day of that I had gotten a deferred disposition and only will have to pay court fees. Paid those immediately.
Two days ago I get a letter in the mail saying that I am delinquent on fees to this court. I go to their website and it says my disposition has been changed to guilty. I call them to ask and the clerk says that my attorney must have not turned in my completion certificate. And that even if I showed the judge at this point, chances are I'd probably still be denied my original ruling.
Tried contacting my attorney but he hasn't responded yet.
This seems completely unfair as I was never informed of a new court date to revisit or that I received a new verdict until the day my new fees are delinquent, along with the apparent mistake being out of my hands. What can I do?
