For anyone not familiar with Oxford Housing— it is a sober living community self and democratically run house with new members in and out somewhat frequently.
I lived in my house for 5 months and evicted myself when I had relapsed. The policy in an Oxford house is typically that I would have 30 days to get my belongings that the house packed for me.
When my belongings were retrieved within the 30 days, more than half of my things were missing. The house believes that a member who no longer lives there left with my belongings.
Do I have any rights here from a legal standpoint? It was thousands of dollars worth of valuables and sentimental items.
Other notes that might be helpful: the house is rented from a landlord and there is an organization involved that helps oversee Oxford Houses in the area. I have messages from members of the house showing they lost my belongings. I have not filed a police report yet as I don’t know if anything would come from it. There are no hard feelings between me and the current house members and I went to treatment after leaving and am back in recovery.
