I was cited for speeding in Peridot, AZ, for 60 in a 45.
I was given a court date and contact information for the San Carlos Apache Court.
Are there any meaningful differences in processes, procedures, or outcomes for a tribal court compared to a non-tribal court? I'm not sure if that's a dumb question, but I've never been cited for anything on a reservation before. I don't *think* this makes a difference, but I am not a member of the tribe or any tribe.
I was given a number to call and a court date, but no information about paying fines or traffic school.
Is this an option for the tribal courts?
Will I need to appear in person or can I call?
Would it be beneficial for me to hire a traffic attorney? If I want to hire a traffic attorney, does the fact that this citation is in a tribal court change anything?
The officer said the courts would need several days to process the ticket before I could call them for more information, so if possible, I'd like to try and understand my options ahead of time.
The court itself is about a 2 hour drive from where I live, so it's not immediately practical to just go there, and if I do need to appear in person, I'd like to know what I need to do to make sure I'm 100% prepared, to avoid making that drive multiple times.
I'm not opposed to traffic school or paying the fine- basically, I'd like to do whatever makes this not be an issue as soon as possible. If I could just pay the fine immediately, I would, but that doesn't seem to be an option.
Thanks in advance
