I own a very nice electric scooter (value of $800). I’ve owned it and been the primary rider (middle age adult woman) of it since Dec ‘23. It gets ridden only on weekends in a campground only, no rough riding at all. Recently I had stopped at a friend’s campsite for a visit. When I left, I rode max 50 feet going around 5mph when without warning the front wheel seized up, abruptly stopping, throwing me over the handlebars.(the hub cracked the way through) I must have went into a tuck and duck position and landing on the pavement on my right shoulder upper right back (immediate intense pain). Hitting my head requiring 13 stitches. I have 2 broken ribs and an unknown injury in my shoulder. I’ve had to have 2CT scans, 2 X-rays and getting ready to have a MRI. On day 5 my pain is still very intense, I have no use of my right arm. Moving around is so painful. One thing that is so bad is that my 4 boys 12-7 are having nightmares and physically throwing up because of how scared it made them and I am completely unable to help them. My orthopedic and the witnesses to my accident have told me I need to contact a lawyer but I don’t know that it will help. I am a hairstylist (self employed) and will be missing an indefinite amount of time which is like to impact my career long term. My income is necessary to our family. It was definitely a malfunction of the EScooter - nothing I could have avoided. Through all this I know how fortunate I am to have not had a head/brain injury and that had I been going faster it could have been much worse. Does anyone here have any sound advice?
