Employer provided housing. There was an unforeseen circumstance that had nothing to do with me and now housing will no longer be available.
Post Body

In my interview I stated I would be giving up my room Iā€™m renting for employee housing. My boss asked me this and I responded.

This place is so unorganized that now looking back I never signed a housing agreement. It only stated it on the offer letter.

In the offer letter it said ā€œhousing location is not guaranteed and housing will only be available during the duration of your employmentā€

There was an unforseen circumstance that had nothing to do with me but with the company.

Also note we are still on payroll so our pay was not interrupted.

The company had to shut down as well as staff housing and I was on my own. I had no where to go. Communication was a mess and it was majority me asking my boss for an update because I have nowhere to go.

She said ā€œin the meantime if you get a hotel, keep your receiptsā€

I end up telling her I found a hotel for a week until weā€™re due back. My boss tells me ā€œi cannot confirm if the company will cover your accomadations, I will pass your receipt to the owners and see what they can doā€ iā€™m like WTF?

So now I dont even know if my job will reimburse me for my hotel.

I scheduled to check out on the day we were told weā€™d go back to work. My boss then tells me ā€œyour department will not return until December and staff house will no longer be available. Please plan accordingly.ā€

I literally have no where to go. I was not fired. There was no notice. Just like that everything changed.

This is NY.

If I was fired its one thing. That I get. Or if I quit on my own choice. But the company decided to put things on pause.

On top of all of this Iā€™m paying train rides to go back and forth to collect stuff to pack. Should they reimburse me for the train tickets as well?

What rights do I have to this?
