I rented a car back in August and today (Nov) I got a bill in the mail for $3k for what's listed as "Damages" and later on it refers to the AC unit not blowing cold air. To my knowledge the AC was working fine when I had the car. I know they took the car and drove it around the lot when I turned the car in so why didn't they tell me the AC wasn't working properly at that point? Why take the car back in the first place? I also know they were in a rush to get the car washed and rented out to another person when I turned it in. So the car was rented immediately after I turned it in. I do have photos of the car before and after drop off but I don't think those can prove anything about the AC. Does anyone know if this is a scam? If it's real, how should I procede? They haven't tried to contact me other than a this.
