Can I press charges and Sue someone who scammed us?
Post Body

Hi guys. I’m not really sure how to make this make sense, but I will do my absolute best. Long story short, my husband started having seizures, due to that he lost his job, due to the loss of job, we lost our housing. So, we decided to relocate. We took everything we could in our car and drive 22 hours to a new state. Prior to that I discussed renting a room from a woman. She stated she was recently divorced, so she got a hotel room at an extended stay hotel. A little bit into her staying there she said she got a job where she lives in with her patient to take care of her. She told me it was too late to cancel her reservation, but the hotel told her she could transfer the reservation to someone else. She placed an ad for the hotel room which is what I found. She said we could have the hotel room for about 30 days for $300. At first I was really apprehensive. I didn’t really believe anything she said. It seemed weird that she would rent it for that little. However, I was not only given confirmation emails, but also confirmed the stay with the hotel. I had a reservation for the dates we agreed on, so we decided to go forward with it. It was the saving grace to us being able to try and start fresh. When we got to the hotel, we were told our reservation was canceled by the third party and I needed to contact them to find out why. When I called the lady told me that whatever employee made the reservation paid for it with the company card, and the company would not be paying for the stay. I told her I wasn’t the employee, I didn’t understand, and that I wasn’t the one to make the reservation in the first place. She kinda just brushed me off like she didn’t believe me. When I went back in to try to talk to the employee, she told me I was banned from ever staying at that location. I asked why and that I have never in my life stayed here, she just repeated herself saying I was banned and to leave the property. She wouldn’t allow me to explain the situation and try to figure out what happened. So now, my husband, dog, and I do not have a place to stay. The lady was initially responding saying not to worry and that she would figure it out, however she stopped responding shortly after. I’m not really sure what we can do. We had enough money for a couple nights stay somewhere else, but that’s it. Are we able to press charges? Can I sue for something? I paid her through PayPal, does PayPal require you to use your legal name to have an account? What steps would be best to take? I apologize this is so long and weirdly worded. We’re stressed. Not sure what to do here. Thank you in advance for any advice you may have.
