Liability claim question
Post Body

A question about homeowners liability claims. I was injured on my father in laws property, broke my leg. My father in law called his homeowners insurance, who then contacted me and took a statement, they asked if I wanted to file a liability claim, I said yes. They said their medical limit is $1000 and liability is $300,000. I've sent some medical bills (the ones I've gotten) and now haven't heard anything for a couple weeks.

I haven't gotten a lawyer involved because I don't want to give them 1/3 of whatever settlement I get. And I expect a lowball offer and can always use the threat of a lawyer to negotiate.

My question is, how long should it take for the insurance company to send an offer? And is me telling them I want to file a liability claim enough, or do I need to send them some sort of letter or form?

Thanks!
