Hi all, I want to make this as short and sweet as possible so I’ll get right to the point. Over the summer my mom noticed that my thyroid area was enlarged so I scheduled an appointment with my doctor. She blamed my neck enlargement on my weight gain and made insensitive comments, including that I wasn’t a “skinny little thing anymore” and that my thyroid was a “non-issue.” Long story short, the blood tests showed that I actually do have hypothyroidism, and weight gain is a side effect of this disease.

I have a long mental health history. In the aftercare summary notes from this visit she wrote about it and listed all of my diagnoses (which are not up to date) and even made mistakes.

Well I reached out to her assistant over MyChart and asked about any forms they might have to make corrections to my medical record. Dr. herself responded and told me to send over the corrections, so I did. That same day I also filed a complaint with the facility she works in about her insensitive comments made in our previous visit. In response to my message she basically shut me down and said she’d make one addendum about my psychiatric history but refused to update my diagnosis.

She then proceeded to disable my MyChart, causing me to lose immediate access to my medical record—including blood test results and referrals. This doesn’t feel right. I know I had switched doctors already but this feels like retaliation.

I’m thinking of reaching out to a lawyer for advice. This situation has been harmful enough to cause me emotional distress as I’m battling symptoms from this disease. It’s been harmful enough to cause a relapse as well.

Any legal advice before I solidify my decision to reach out to a lawyer?
