What kind of lawyer is needed here?

My brother hired a contractor and paid him 20k upfront to do some basic basement renovation work. The guy delayed for months and did a couple days‘ worth of work but then my brother got a text today from the guy’s phone saying the contractor is dead now (the text said this was the guy’s dad writing on his deceased son’s phone). What should my brother do? What kind of lawyer can help him here? I don’t think the guy is actually dead
