Not sure if this is the right thread so if it's not please direct me to a better one.

So as the title reads, my dad died unexpectedly two weeks ago. He did not have a will. He was in a LTC facility getting physical therapy because of strokes for about a year now. We expected him to return home. He never did... It should be noted that me and my brother with our spouses live in the home. None of us are disabled. I lived there before Dad went into LTC looking after the house and keeping an eye on him. (Dad has been in bad health for years, but nothing dramatic just old people stuff) I have been covering the bills in the home since he went into the facility and even before that just to help Dad out. Brother moved back in July after he finished college to be closer to family when he came home. (There's also an estranged sister who I know will unfortunately, if there's anything left, want her "fair share") I know about Medicaid Estate Recovery but not entirely sure how it works. I know I will get a letter where they say the estate owes X-amount. I am almost positive we don't qualify for any "hardship" waivers because we are all able bodies.

I'll be honest, I am not sure if the estate will cover the amount my dad has in all of his debts. 90k mortgage, 10k credit card, 30k in medical debt, and an unknown large one from Medicaid. I don't think the estate will be worth more than his debt so I am assuming the estate will become insolvent. My question, should I try and become the administrator of the estate or hire a probate lawyer? It seems complicated and I don't want to be on the line if I mess something up. On the flip side, I don't want to pay thousands out of my pocket for a lawyer.

We also live in the house and while, we could find a new place to live, we are not in a hurry. So how long do these things usually take?

I also don't know the next steps. Who do I call? Do I just call all of his accounts and let them know he died?

Edit:

House is probably worth 250k Bank account: 1k Old truck: 1.5k

No other assets
