I place an order on Facebook marketplace many months ago. It was from a private seller willing to ship the item, I paid over $400 for this item. After placing the order, I submitted a request to cancel because after reviewing the ad, something seemed fishy. I assumed I was safe since Facebook has a Purchase Protection that protects buyers from packages that never show up. The request for cancellation was declined and I was left waiting to see if the seller was legit. They provided a shipping tracking number and I was left waiting for the package. The package was marked as “delivered” by UPS but never actually arrived. I submitted a claim to Facebook and the claim was automatically closed. Over the past couple of months I’ve been trying to get in contact with a support member from Facebook but they do not have a phone number or email! I disputed the transaction with my card company and since there was a tracking number that said the packaged was delivered, Facebook claimed the item was delivered and I lost the dispute. I tried putting in a complaint with the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau to get the same response, and a suggestion to take it up with UPS. After speaking with a chatbot, apparently only the shipper can open a claim for an investigation. With no way to contact Facebook, how will I do this? I went into this transaction under the assumption that I would be protected from fraud and scams due to their Purchase Protection and feel like I’ve been deceived. Is there a way to pursue legal action for some sort of breach of contract with the information I’ve gathered?
