Is it worth paying my lawyer additional money to take a plea?
Post Body

Context: this is for my boyfriend who is pending a jury court trial in two weeks.

His lawyer just got elected as a county judge and is now asking for an additional $15,000 to represent him or 2000 to take a plea deal 18 days before his court date.

Hes accused of a felony charge of impeding breath. (And he has refused the prior plea deals becuase the person who this happened to was the person who started hitting him first and he claims self defense)

If you cannot afford to pay either one of those, how does he go about getting a court appointed attorney? Does he lose the option of a plea deal if he goes with a court appointed attorney? (is there any benefit to paying the Attorney $2000 to take the plea deal)

Any/all advice is welcome. Thank you in advance.
