For context, I work for a major corporation. My job requires that I make home visits that are (mostly) unannounced and uninvited. I have worked really hard, really hard to get myself out of the depths of my dark days that I was suffering as an addict. I was never a functioning addict. It has been 12 years since I have pulled myself from the pits of hell. It took several more years to gain the confidence to get back to work. I have been working for this company for just under a year. Today I received a phone call from a police department asking me if I had seen a wedding band while in a particular home. I have not. I immediately felt as though I should contact the Home because I can understand how it would be extremely upsetting to be missing something of great value the day after a stranger was in your home. It became immediately apparent that this guy is very likely lying, and additionally he intends to use my sealed criminal record against me to file suit against my company for “sending me to his home.” I don’t even know what to do here. I’m literally sick to my stomach. I called back the police department and spoke with the officer again who advised me that the husband had just screamed at him and he advised me against reaching out. I figured that people with nothing to hide, don’t hide. These people will find it and everything will blow over. After speaking to the husband, this is clearly not the case. This guy is out for some sort of payday from my company, at my expense. He left me a voicemail that was both shocking, threatening and completely inappropriate.
When I applied for this job, my record had been sealed, so there was no reason to mention anything. I did have charges in 2018 that were dismissed. I believe that the police log article is still available online.
Wall of Text, I apologize. I am beside myself as I have worked very very hard to do well at this job. I need this job. If my employer decides to terminate my employment, what is my recourse? Also, what is my recourse against the homeowner who clearly is lying?
