Can employer fire me for suing separate company?

Post Body

I am based in CT, recently hired by a TX based tech company. I was laid off by a DE based global tech company, and I believe they engaged in illegal activity and I am considering a lawsuit.

New company (TX based, about 70 employees) is a distributor of previous company and gets substantial amounts of their business from previous employer. Can my new company fire me for a lawsuit against a previous company? Am I protected under retaliation laws? Is it relevant if it is civil or criminal?
