Long story short, accelerated a bit too early before the end of the speed zone because I was trying to get up to speed on my way out of one of the many small towns I pass through on my commute to and from college.
The problem is I am entirely destitute right now and only barely able to eat and afford gas for the commute with support from my parents, but our family finances are stretched very thin at the moment as my father unexpectedly needed to do chemotherapy again after an inconclusive screening.
The ticket says I have until December to respond, but I am considering writing the person in charge of routine traffic violations and asking for them to be lenient as I have never had any sort of ticket before, and simply allow me to serve time in jail between the fall and spring semester instead of forcing me further into financial ruin.
I’m going to be going back to my shitty retail job starting later this month to help make ends meet, but I’m really worried about my ability to balance it with school. Trying to balance work and school is what had me flunk out the first time I went to college. Even one ten hour shift a week is going to be a lot since I have an extremely heavy course load right now and feel like I’m drowning as it is.
If it matters at all I was caught on radar going 49 in a 30, he flashed his lights to pull me over just a few feet after the sign to switch back to 55 which made it sting even more.
I fully recognize it was my own fault, I just don’t have any way to pay a speeding ticket right now and am hoping they might be willing to just throw me in debtors prison for a month or so and call it even. I’m really at the end of my rope.
