I (20F) took in a friend that (17m) got kicked out of his house. His mother gave me power of attorney to take care of him in her absence (getting him medical treatment, enrolling him in school, authorization of travel, providing shelter for him, care, and supervision are the terms of the DOPA).
Well the problems started when my friend stopped going to school because I had no way to get him there besides making him walk about 2 miles ish. He neglected to tell me he was going to court for 5th degree assault until his mother told me. The court decided he needs to be on probation. Idk if the details of the probation are needed, I'll respond in the comments to any questions about it.
Now we're here 6 months later and I'm still having trouble waking him up and getting him to school. He has insomnia and needs certain anxiety meds to put him to sleep. But I can't wake him up earlier then the meds will allow him to wake (like 12-14 hour minimum).
Obviously his probation officer, case manager, and truancy is not happy with this (understandable neither am I but I can't fix a medical condition that's a doctors job not mine)
And now I'm being told by my friend that his case manager is not allowing him to get help from paras while he is at school even though he is on an iep. Reasoning being my friend is not there enough. Friend has tried discussing going to alc or online school and his case manager is refusing any sort of help on this. His probation officer is just going along with whatever his case manager is saying.
I need to know what my steps should be, I have not been getting letters or anything. It's all going to his mother which obviously doesn't want to be involved. I want to set up a meeting with all these people to discuss this but I need to know the smart route would be to go about this. I want to show that I'm trying to work with them but I'm at a loss. I am located in MN.
