I work in the school system and I recently found out that the principal granted the bookkeeper permission to dock vacation days for holidays. The issue I have is that the school is never in operation during holidays and the building shuts down during those times, meaning there’s no access for me. Granted, we all are too work during the holidays but it is to the principal discretion! I leave each time with an understanding the building is closed and I don’t have to work during the holiday. Unfortunately, as I stated earlier, days were docked without my consent nor knowledge. No absences form was ever presented to me to sign off on. Multiple vacation days were stolen from my salary.
What rights do I have in this case? How can I reclaim those days? Should I seek an employment attorney? Please advise.
