Can a job compel you to incriminate yourself?

(Michigan) On threat of employment a friend of mine is expected to reveal crimes he has committed regardless of if law enforcement was ever aware of them. The buisness then may well report them to the authorities. There is no way to know if crimes where committed, except by his admission but is this a violation of fifth amendment rights?
