I called my apartment's property manager and they said something about not being able to change the legal name on my lease without renewing the lease. I brought up the concern that "DEADNAME" is legally no longer me and that might cause issues with me trying to sign up for food stamps and stuff with proof of lease. They had no suggestions and refused to listen to the issues with that and blew me off.
After that happened, I physically went to the property management office and the lady is saying she can't edit the pdf of the lease at all. She said there's no way to do an addendum or anything and that for people who get married they just change it in the "tenant profile" and it automatically updates upon renewal. She also said the only way to get the name changed in the lease now is to cancel the current lease and renew for another 12 months.
Is there anything that can be done to have my actual legal name on the lease?
