Hello all.
I live in a apartment complex in Greenville SC. There is a huge Black snake that keeps coming back to my building, it is on the outside however. The first time I saw it was in June and then Saturday as I came back home to my apartment, I saw it on the entrance to my and my neighbors apartment scaling the walls. When I finally got someone to come the snake disappeared so I’m deathly afraid the snake is somewhere in my apartment. I have asked my apartment complex to find the snake and get rid of it but because it’s “outside” they said there’s nothing they can do and they won’t reimburse me if I get animal control to come out here. Is there anything I can do? I pay monthly for pest control. Secondly, I came home today and there was a note on my door with a warning of a violation against my lease that said I had “several times” used foul language “with” the staff and with a warning. The notice is bullshit, I never used foul language against them so they had to say “with” this is the only problem I have is this snake issue and the first time I called was a Sunday so they didn't even come out, they sent someone afterwards when the snake had left.
I feel like they're trying to silence me and scare me because I said I would send them the bill if I had to get animal control to remove the snake. I would fight this however, my lease renewal is coming up in December and I plan to ask them for a 6-month leasing agreement until I can move out of state in July but this will only work if I can cash out of my retirement (I will know the answer to this on Wednesday).
So my questions are now that I have given you context. Is my apartment complex liable for snakes if they are climbing around a tenants door? And should I fight this notice if I plan to ask for a six month lease?
