This past friday I was pulled over and recieved a speeding ticket (46.2-875) in Virginia. My naturalization ceremony is this thursday, the 19th. I checked online this morning and could not find the case in the court's system, and when I called they said it would not be in the system for a few weeks, and that I didn't need to worry because it is a citation not a charge and the court date isn't until november. However, on the form n-445 which needs to be filled out during the naturalization process, it asks if you have been charged or cited with anything including traffic violations, which indicates to me that the citation could cause problems even if it is before the court date. Online all the advice I have read says to pay the ticket beforehand, but from what the clerk told me it won't be possible to do that until it is in their system, which she insisted could take weeks even after I explained the situation and multiple times asked if there was any possible way it could be made to go through earlier. She said I could call every day to see if they had received it before the ceremony and if they did I would be able to pay it, but if that does not happen I am not sure what course of action I should take and I am skeptical of her advice given that it contradicts the question asked in the survey. She did say that it would be possible to bring the ticket into the actual court and pay it in person, but I am not sure if this is a situation where it would be smarter to just leave it given that it likely won't be in the system until after the naturalization ceremony. Any advice would be appreciated especially if you have been in a similar situation.
