I saw online through USPS informed delivery that I got a piece of mail from a lawyer. I ended up calling to see why and they said their client appealed.
I represented myself 8/12, and so did they, didn't come with too much evidence. In the beginning the judge said they chose not to countersue. They are in the process of selling their house that I lived in if that matters....
They tried to keep my $4,500 deposit ($1,500 was a pet deposit) and charge me $1,300 on top of that. When I was first moving into the home, in text she mentioned they wanted $1500 deposit for my dogs. In the lease she ended up putting that it was a "pet fee" meaning NON-REFUNDABLE. I did not notice that when I signed it. I took pictures of every inch of the home. I was their one and only tenant. I left the home in pristine condition.
I ended up winning $3000 minus the damages from replacement of a screen of a sliding glass door from rips and a window screen with rips from my dogs jumping on them.
I paid for professional cleaning, carpet cleaning, and pest control treatment because their sneaky asses added that into the lease. They told me it wasn't up to their standards, told me to get a refund, and deducted that from my security deposit. The rest they deducted was from a toilet overflow situation. I had a total of 4 water floods, the hot water heater stopped working and was replaced, fridge stopped working and was replaced, the hvac went out 3 times while I lived there. There was mold growing visibly where I would spray it with hydrogen peroxide. This is a 9 year old house by the way and I am one 26 year old woman who works often and I counted down the SECONDS until my lease was over for months I was so depressed and stressed with everything during the time I lived in that house.....
My therapist gave me the advice of reaching out to a lawyer since they did. I felt so at peace after I won because it fixed almost an entire year of stress
What should I do? Any advice? I wanna cry lmao
