I apologize if there is a better flair choice.

I volunteer as a bartender at a private membership only sportsman’s club. Members are permitted to bring guests but must be present and vouch for said guests.

A guest of a member was asked to leave, by me, while I was working. They refused. I contacted local PD and they were asked to leave. PD confirmed with me that this wasn’t a club ban, that it was my choice while I was working. I confirmed that this was accurate.

The incident was brought before the organization’s Board and they decided that this person would no longer be welcome.

I am not sure if they were contacted by phone, or in writing or what was said. I was only advised not to be concerned about their presence again.

Months go by. We rent an outside space for members or local Orgs to utilize at a fee. One of these was a raffle/fundraiser that is unaffiliated to our Org. Said banned patron was present. They asked a club member to fetch them beer from the bar and run them out to them, as they stated they were only permitted not to enter the building. They could remain on property.

Beer runner questioned a board member inside who had been consuming. He shrugged his shoulders and said “I don’t know”

I was informed and find it to be potentially problematic. Had I been in our outdoor space bartending, I would have asked banned patron to leave the premises, citing their ban, and contacted PD if need be.

The crux of my issue is that communication and specifics of said ban were possibly not in writing, or explained. I don’t have answers right now. I will be attending our Board meeting tomorrow to pose this issue and hope to resolve it so there is no confusion for myself and my colleagues.

My question to you: should this person being “banned” from the indoor facility but not the outdoor space become problematic? What are the risks the Org could be taking here?

I want to establish a trespass order if they show again.

Any other advice or questions you have are welcome. I’m off to bed so I may not see them until later.

Thanks for your time.
