I cannot go into detail as to why I was speaking to 5 officers, but it was not anything I did. I was a witness to a non violent conflict between two other people. I came down from my apartment with my purse which is one of those mini backpack purses. I was showing a video I filmed of the situation to one of the officers, and I had my back turned to the remaining 4. Within 10 seconds of standing there I felt a tugging feeling coming from my back, and for a micro second I was telling myself that one of the other officers was standing too close to me so they could see my phone screen aswell. But as a reaction to a pressure/tugging my reflex was to twist and look behind me. I quickly turned to look behind me and I saw the female officer very quickly, yet sickly taking a step away from me, with her hands down in front of her pelvis, clutching onto my wallet. I could barely see the fusia corner. In the moment it did not register what had happened but something did not feel right. I went up to my apartment and brought something down for them to see(as part of the incident they were called for) and I handed it to the primary male officer I had been speaking with. He handed the item back to me and then he suddenly held my wallet out and said "you dropped this". I was in shock and the only thing that came out of my mouth was "thank you". Immediately I put all the pieces together in my mind and I'm a "freeze" kind of person so I did not confront the female officer for taking my wallet out of my purse. She then stepped up to me and asked for my name, etc.. which is obviously absurd. She was clearly checking if I was telling the truth. I unlocked my apartment building door and quickly got inside, looked at my purse and it was 3/4ths unzipped! After checking the contents of my wallet I noticed my cards were not placed how/ where I place them. What is my next move? Do I contact someone at the police department? Do I get a lawyer? Do I request body cam footage?
