I have a food business that I started with a good friend, an LLC. Anyways a pastor wanted to help grow my business by providing a old food truck of theirs for "free". Basically, we sent him about 12k in total in a span of 6 months to help us with the whole food truck thing(including the registration fee for the business), since we were new. It wasn't 12k at once, little by little. It was to add equipment to the food truck and upgrade it in general. This pastor guy has one of those ubereats partnered ghost restaurants(takeaway/delivery only), we think that he migrated his old equipment into the truck. It was all very rusty. We have reciepts, chat transcripts & media to back all this up. He promised to wrap the truck, set up the social media, etc. Didn't do any of that except make promises. He keeps saying he's always busy.
At month 6, the location where we set up the truck was no longer profitable to make sense considering the rent of the location itself. So we told him to take the truck, and his guys towed it away.
He still has an extra 2k from us that he says he can't give back for now. Most importantly he ignores any request to provide the receipts of all the things he bought with the money.
We still do catering, but do we have a case? All in all this was a massive loss. Are there lawyers that would hear me out without charging exhorbi
