Drug Tests/Searches in Federal Prisons - What’s my rights?

Post Body

Howdy yall, I got a question.

This past year my family has been getting targeted by this guard when we try to visit a family member in a Low-Security Federal Correctional Facility. He makes the women in my family change our clothes (saying they’re “too tight” or “see through” when no other guard believes so), does everything he can to make sure our visits are miserable, and drug tests me using an Ion scanner whenever possible. That last one is the subject of this post mainly.

The last time I visited, it was right after the 4th of July (and obviously we fired off fireworks so there was gunpowder on my shoes), and I was hit with a ‘random’ drug search and it came back positive (despite him joking with another guard that the machine was “doing it again”), and my visitation privileges were suspended for 48 hours, and I now have that on my visitation record. The next time that happens would be 30 days suspension, then 90, then 120. It’s shitty. I was never even told what they found or how much.

I’ve done research and I can’t find anything. Im visiting my relative again tomorrow and I need to know; Is this legal? Is it legal for them to drug test me and not inform me what they found? Even the supervisor who gave me the “official notice” said anyone could accidentally come into contact with microscopic amounts of illegal drugs, plus I take some medicines that can set off those kinds of things (ADHD Stimulants). Do I have any rights in this situation?

NOTE: My family is already working with other inmates families to press complaints against this guard. I’ve even heard rumours there’s a private Facebook group about getting him fired because he’s apparently done way worse to other people. Any tips for that would be appreciated aswell, but I’d like to focus on the drug testing rights. Thanks y’all.
