4 days ago I sustained an injury while working. Long story short, I’d gotten surgery in my upper GI tract, and while working I strained too hard and broken the stitches in my stomach. Bad news bears, but I was just approved to go back to work with Light Duty, not being able to push, pull, or lift over 5lbs for the next week.
Our location is extremely short staffed. One of the floor supervisors came to me in a bit of a tizzy, telling me I needed to go back to the job I was doing before, which was extremely strenuous. I work manual labor, often lifting 50 lbs over my head.
I told him I’m on light duty, and I can’t lift those things, and he told me not to make excuses, that the company needs me, that I really need to “just do the work you were hired for.”
I repeatedly said no, that I’m on light work for medical reasons and he was getting increasingly frustrated. Finally he told me that he would be consulting with my personal supervisor “regarding your ability to perform your job effectively.”
I’m a younger guy. I don’t know much about the work force and this is my first full time job. I don’t know whether to go to HR about this, or just ignore it, I’m really at a loss.
